"Do you remember...?"

Post by Elyris »

Just because it's on TV right now:

11.11.2000 - The Kaprun train desaster

Jeez - already so long ago. I can remember how it was all over the news.

Yeah, I remember seeing something on the History Channel or Discovery Channel about this.

Alright, and that's something that makes me feel old... when something I remember very well from the news, as an adult, now is on a "history channel" :oh:

12 years? :omg:

That's weird - on one hand it feels like just yesterday and on the other hand like in a completely different life...

The LOTR movies are timeless. Just think, one of the pre-LOTR movies is already out, The Hobbitt. And another is due out in a few weeks and another next year. I wish they would go on for many more years as long as they keep the quality the same. Genius.

used to love the funny cartoons before the movie came on at the theater. Now it is commercials. Not many previews either.

Unless you're seeing a Pixar or Disney Animated movie, then you're guaranteed one funny cartoon before the movie. And I love all of the trailers that they show before the movie - it means you don't miss any of the feature even if you arrive at the theater 10min late.

I've seen those pics too today - and it's definitely a day I remember well.

It's a miracle how nature takes the place back - radiation has still to be there, but the plants look healthy.

And as far as I know the animals also adapted pretty well. There are mice, owls, birds of prey, deers, badgers, lynxes and the biggest wolf population in that corner of europe.

Yep, but where else in the world can you find an ordinary mushroom of 2 kilograms?

Well, now seriously, I wonder the level of genetic mutations caused by radiation...

Calvatia gigantea ?

Nature can handle mutation - it's always been there after all. The degree might've been a weight to lift and the first years were likely a struggle. But everything got through that and now it's a human-free resort.
Also the levels of radiation are not decreasing in a circular way from the reactor out. New measurements showed that just int the middle of the 'death zone' (which is apparently anything but) the radiation levels were so low under normal circumstances no one would say there is any danger there while on a spot 400km away, far outside of the secured area the radiation was enormusly high. This stuff doesn't spread evenly, just because it would be easier for us.
By now I am quite sure that the humans also would#ve made it through this. Taking heavy losses, but in the end we're hard to extinct.

Talking ot the possibility of extinction... I believe that the only thing that would force the humans worldwide to unite, at least for a while, is some global outside threat of extinction (aliens, anyone?).
