Quaritch in sequels
I came here expecting to find a long discussion about JC announcing that Stephen Lang will be returning as Quaritch in not one, but all three of the sequels. How is it possible that you guys haven't discussed that topic at all??

Re: Quaritch in sequels
And of course I have my theory of how this would be possible. It's staring us right in the face actually, if you think about the title of the movie. If they have the technology to control avatars that are half human and half Na'vi DNA, then an earlier version of the technology would have started with avatars that were all human DNA. The Quaritch we meet in Avatar was HIS avatar. We know that there are at least 26 RDA sites on Pandora. The avatar technology was being used in the movie to try to improve relations with the natives, but technology that expensive would not have been developed solely for that purpose. It would have been developed to send human avatars into dangerous situations without endangering the actual soldier. And of course a top colonel like Quaritch would have had an avatar of himself that the RDA could send on dangerous missions without endangering the real Colonel. Here's how they could bring back Quaritch in Avatar 2:
Establishing Shot: Pandora. Top Security RDA Military Base
Cut to older looking, less shiny Link room. A red warning alarm flashes on the control panel of a link unit as the unit slides back. The top is thrust open and Colonel Quarich emerges exclaiming "That blue bitch destroyed my avatar." But this isn't the Quaritch that we know. This one is completely free of any scars (3 tours Nigeria, not a scratch, remember.) It was his avatar that got all scratched up (day one, think he felt like a shaved tail Louie, especially wounding his avatar on his first day on Pandora.)
We only know the avatar of Quaritch, not the real one. We see Quaritch in Selfridge's office, but never in an office of his own. It's that simple.

Now this makes sense, a lot more than some resurrection through his still very valid DNA...

I think he'll be in a few flash backs...

There's nothing wrong with having Quaritch's rear kicked several times - hard.
Personally I think more of the flashback theory too - but I admit, Nawm's theory sounds like a lot more fun

Flashbacks would have been my first guess before we found out that Quaritch was going to be the main villain for the next three films. But the flashback theory wouldn't work for three more films. It has to be the real Quaritch.

Oh, so it is kinda the same as it was in Star Wars... first the senator, then the corrupt senator, and in the end emperor, but all the way, same head villain.

@Xacoon: Your old ff? Fanfic? I never read any fanfic about Quaritch's return.
Feel like reposting it?
Oh, and here's the link to the article about Stephen Lang being the main villain in the next movies, for those who haven't read it yet: http://movies.yahoo.com/news/james-came ... 02625.html (I'll also include it in the first post).
I personally think Nawm's theory is very plausible. It makes more sense than any other theory I've heard so far, including cloning, time travel and flash backs.

Re: Quaritch in sequels
I too am curious to see how James Cameron plans to bring Quaritch back.
It would be rather cheesy to have him as the main villain in all three sequels. After the first sequel, most people won't see the point to go see the other two if Quaritch is just going to be resurrected again as the villain.

I really like that theory Nawm.
It sounds entirely convincing without having a cheesy element to it.

Well, I don't know, Nawm. It is kind of a long shot. Then again, if they really did that, it would be ten different kinds of awesome.
Being realistic though, it's probably gonna be more like one of the usual come-back-from-the-dead plot devices.

Re: Quaritch in sequels
It seems the only plausible and totally logical way to bring Quaritch back. There's no way his body in the film could have survived two 6ft arrows in the chest. Plus a top secret military research base on Pandora gives JC the opportunity to add cooler AMP suits and other weapons/gadgets, as well as new human characters.

Two 6 ft arrows - plus the infamous neurotoxin... that guy was as dead as a body can get!

Plus the fact that even if by some miracle he did somehow survive, I'm fairly certain that those arrows went through him and into the back of his seat so either way he's pinned in that AMP coffin.

Re: Quaritch in sequels
There is no way in hell his fellow bandits could come and retrieve his remains. They all had bigger worries... lol. Nawm's version is the most reasonable one.

Why do you think that would ruin the movie? I haven't heard any better theories than this one so far.

Re: Quaritch in sequels
I think he was referring to my comment about the retrieval of his remains (or, at least, some of his DNA).
